Thanks to the people over at I-Hacked.com we are confirmed into Skybox 208 on Saturday night. We are still working out the calendar of events, but it’s looking like a like always, with the live broadcast first with swag giveaways, and party afterwords. As for the ritual free drinks, we are working that part out as well.

I would also like to announce Astaro as a sponsor of this year’s DEFCON Podcaster’s Meetup. They have been big supporters of podcasters and continue to show their graciousness in supporting the Podcaster’s Meetup.

To All,
Well, this year marks the first annual DEFCON Podcaster’s Meetup, and we will be doing it in STYLE. For those of you who made it out to the second annual Podcaster’s Meetup at ShmooCon, we ran into some hitches (like sound), but as we grow, so do the problems. Let me start off by telling you some sweet news. We are nailing down time in a SkyBox! So we will have plenty of room, piece and quite for recording, and a nice view over the con, plus NO WALKING TO THE PARTY. We will have it right there in the box!
To Podcasters,
I need to know as soon as possible how many already are set to go, those intending on getting set up and those who can’t make it. Also, if the idea of getting in free pushes you over the ‘going’ edge, we may be able to work that as well. Also, on that note, please forward this, like a Microshaft chain letter to any other podcasters that may be going, give them my email address so we can start a dialog and work out any kinks in their plans.
To Potential Sponsors,
I have included you in this email because I want you to understand the possibilities of this event. It will be at DEFCON 16. The most well known security / hacker conference. If you want to send fliers, stickers, drinks, money, or prizes, we can work out the details. We will be recording and broadcasting a live show from DEFCON which usually brings in 100 local and up to 500 remote viewers. It is then rebroadcast on which ever podcasters or vidcasters distribution that wants to and that could range from 10,000 to 1 million potential viewers.
As information is updated and confirmations come in, I will be updating the collaboration site: http://www.podcastersmeetup.com/ . Feel free to post or forward this information on to who every you like.
If you would like an account in order to broadcast your presence at the event, please signup and I will upgrade your user level.
For those who may not know: DEFCON 16: August 8-10, 2008
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you,
Rob Fuller, a.k.a. Mubix

Well my news office is getting finished this Saturday and I am ramping up to get rolling on all the things that I have let slip since I have been in this transition.
I know this update is shaking some dust in some of your RSS readers.

It looks like we arent’ the only ones doing meetups. Only difference is they are sponsored by Microsoft and other deep pockets.
Security Bloggers Meet-up 2008: Helping you sift through security bull one tag at a time
Jennifer Leggio, Event Organizer
Social networking has progressed far beyond the basic blogosphere – especially in network security. With more than 100 blogs in the Security Bloggers Network, a good bevy of these bloggers are also expanding and communicating with their readership via micro-blogging on Twitter, live conferencing on ooVoo, video blogging on Seesmic, and of course, podcasting and video streaming. With all of these new tools – not to mention the ever-growing hotbed of network security issues to discuss – we thought a party at RSA Conference would be a great place to invite all of these bloggers to come together and share ideas and issues.
The Security Bloggers Meet-Up, however, is more than a social event for bloggers. Last year’s event at RSA was a huge success but aside from some live video feed, courtesy of PodTech, the event itself was very exclusive. While the party itself is still invitation-only for security bloggers and podcasters, we’ve opened it up a bit more through social networking to help the security community at large share in some of the festivities.
In addition to live video streaming similar to last year’s, there will be an ongoing live podcast (both courtesy of Network Security Podcast. There will also be a live Twitter feed from the event that will include quick 140-character interview responses from party attendees. If you’re on Twitter, follow @RSABloggers2008 for up-to-the-minute details before, during and after the event. If you’re not yet on Twitter sign up! You will also find a great list of security bloggers to follow.
Again, while the event itself is limited to security bloggers and podcasters, their readers and listeners can tune in from 6-8 p.m. PT on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, for a live experience. Subscribe to the RSS feed above for updates on this blog, details about the live podcasting, video streaming and Twitter feeding before, during and after the conference.
If you want to attend and have not yet received an invitation (or want to be listed on our blog roll), please email your name and blog or podcast URL to Jennifer Leggio.

Now that ShmooCon is over with, and the fact that we are gluttons for punishment, it’s time for DEFCON
It has begun…
DEFCON is back at the Riviera Hotel, August 8-10, taking over the whole place, no drunk frat meetings or police chiefs conferences to share with!
The wheels are turning on the 16th installment of your favorite hacking conference. Contest and Event threads are up and running in the forums, and now is the time to start suggesting new ideas, or to get involved with an existing event.
Your favorite official contests will be back, including Capture the Flag, the Mystery Box Challenge, DEFCON Bots, and the Lockpicking Contest as well as the unofficial Toxic BBQ, Øwn the Box, and the Phreaking Challenge. See the current state of the official and unofficial contests and get involved at the DEFCON Forums.
It’s also time to gather up that research because…
Call for Papers Opens March 1st!
That’s right! It’s almost time again to submit your hacktastic discoveries to be considered as a DEFCON talk! New and interesting research is always welcomed in the realm of security, hardware hacking, social engineering, lockpicking, and anything else you can modify, bypass or reverse engineer. Out of the box thinking is what we’re after… Stay tuned for details.
