It looks like we arent’ the only ones doing meetups. Only difference is they are sponsored by Microsoft and other deep pockets.
Security Bloggers Meet-up 2008: Helping you sift through security bull one tag at a time
Jennifer Leggio, Event Organizer
Social networking has progressed far beyond the basic blogosphere – especially in network security. With more than 100 blogs in the Security Bloggers Network, a good bevy of these bloggers are also expanding and communicating with their readership via micro-blogging on Twitter, live conferencing on ooVoo, video blogging on Seesmic, and of course, podcasting and video streaming. With all of these new tools – not to mention the ever-growing hotbed of network security issues to discuss – we thought a party at RSA Conference would be a great place to invite all of these bloggers to come together and share ideas and issues.
The Security Bloggers Meet-Up, however, is more than a social event for bloggers. Last year’s event at RSA was a huge success but aside from some live video feed, courtesy of PodTech, the event itself was very exclusive. While the party itself is still invitation-only for security bloggers and podcasters, we’ve opened it up a bit more through social networking to help the security community at large share in some of the festivities.
In addition to live video streaming similar to last year’s, there will be an ongoing live podcast (both courtesy of Network Security Podcast. There will also be a live Twitter feed from the event that will include quick 140-character interview responses from party attendees. If you’re on Twitter, follow @RSABloggers2008 for up-to-the-minute details before, during and after the event. If you’re not yet on Twitter sign up! You will also find a great list of security bloggers to follow.
Again, while the event itself is limited to security bloggers and podcasters, their readers and listeners can tune in from 6-8 p.m. PT on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, for a live experience. Subscribe to the RSS feed above for updates on this blog, details about the live podcasting, video streaming and Twitter feeding before, during and after the conference.
If you want to attend and have not yet received an invitation (or want to be listed on our blog roll), please email your name and blog or podcast URL to Jennifer Leggio.
This is the second year of meetups at RSA. I think we beat out Shmoocon by about 3 weeks last year, so I think we (barely) count as preceding the Shmoo meetup. In any case, if you’re going to be at RSA, please join us.
Hoping to make Shmoocon 2009 and the meetup,
Martin
